The August luncheon was excellent. The speaker, Mr. Robert (Bob) McGaughy, gave an excellent presentation on the Doolittle Raiders which was both interesting and informative. The President of the Ohio Council of Chapters attended and donated a book as a give-a-way for our 50-50 drawing (won by Col Ron Pusateri). We had in attendance many guests and members who hadn’t attended a luncheon in years. It was a great pleasure meeting these folks. The September Luncheon speaker will be MG (Ret) Deborah Ashenhurst who is the current Director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs and was appointed by Governor DeWine this past January.
HELP WANTED. We are at about the 90% mark on being able to begin our Fundraising efforts in support of our current programs: the Franklin County Stand Down, Fairfield County Stand Down, Honor Flight, Adopt-A-Service Member, Veterans Court and revitalization our ROTC Scholarship Program. The Foundation is in place so we can accept donations from businesses and individuals and those donations are deductible for income tax purposes. Chapter dues are not deductible, nor will dues go to support programs, but donations to the Foundation in general and to specific programs are deductible.
We need member support in two areas. Chapter Board members are currently filling roles as members of the Foundation Board. We need different members sitting on the Foundation Board and the Chapter Board. It’s not illegal to have Chapter Board members on the Foundation Board but having different members on each Board reduces the appearance of conflict of interest and the workload per person. The second venue in which we need members is the fundraising area. We have letters tailored to businesses as well as information packets for businesses and individuals outlining why we need donations and how they will be used. We need members to contact individuals and people in businesses they know that may donate to the programs we support. The alternative option is to let us know who these key people are, then we can contact them. We hope to get as many people involved in this effort as possible. This isn’t a “fire and forget” mission, but a long-term effort to ensure viable support for worthwhile programs. You may contact me or any of the Board members if you are willing to help.
