I am astounded that the year is half over! Time flies when you are having fun. The Chapter continues doing well, and we will soon be ready to begin raising funds/donations through the MOAA-Central Ohio Chapter Foundation. Please share your ideas with us pertaining to raising funds.
The Board of Directors (during the June meeting), selected the following officers to guide the Foundation until officers are selected during the January 2020 election for a two-year term. They are: me as President, LTC Jeff Collins as Vice President, Col Alex Bettinger as Secretary, CDR Walter Rey as Treasurer, CAPT Bill Tate as Past President, Col Pete Wilkinson and LTC Bill Radcliffe as Members-at-Large. These selections were made based primarily on the work these people have accomplished to get the Foundation established, and make the beginning of the Foundation run as smoothly as possible.
Our next Board of Directors meeting is 10 July 2019 for the Board members plus anyone else who would like to attend. We moved the date due to the 4thof July Holiday. The meeting will be in Room 906, Building 11, DSCC. I’ll use this space as a pitch for new Board members, as we need new people on the Board. I believe the current Board has done a fantastic job, but we’re getting older and need additional people. There are members who have been on the Board for twenty years, and if they wish to go another twenty, that’s fine. We need new folks not necessarily to replace people, but to be there when current members decide they want to move on to other things. I was a Member-at-Large for about eight months and then became President. This has been a great experience because I’ve met some exceptional people. My term will end this coming December and that will come quickly. I encourage you to step up and take a position.
The June luncheon at Berwick was great, the food was good with a reasonable price, and the speaker was excellent. Mr. Chad Simpson, Ambassador at the Wesley Communities, was our speaker and his subject was BG Rufus Putman/siege of Boston during the Revolutionary War/and chance encounters. Our next speaker, Ray Bower, promises to be interesting as he presents personal experiences of his time in Vietnam.
I will also make one last pitch for attending the State Convention in Cincinnati 20-22 September 2019. We have five or six people signed up, with spouses, so we’re going to have a good group there and it should be fun. I believe the Reds are playing the night of the 19thand maybe the 22rd(Sunday) and the room rates are good from Thursday through Sunday with a check-out on Monday morning. It is also Octoberfest time in Cincinnati, so that should be good. The Convention itself is really Friday evening and Saturday. LtGen Atkins, the President and CEO of MOAA is the keynote speaker Saturday evening. The Greater Cincinnati Chapter is sponsoring this event and you can find out more details and register by going to their Chapter website at cincymoaa.org (you’ll have to type in this address). This is a good chance to do something a little different and I hope to see many of you there.
