“The featured legislative alert on the MOAA website at http://capwiz.com/moaa/home/ is titled “Defend Troops in the Defense Bill”. I would highly encourage everyone to go to the following site and take action by contacting Congress using the drafted message. Here’s some more information on this alert: “Before adjourning the 113th Congress on December 12, the House and Senate must reach a compromise on the defense authorization bill. Negotiations have stalled over three key personnel provisions. The House wants to prevent TRICARE pharmacy fee increases, block a military pay cap, and stop cuts to the Basic Allowance for Housing. The Senate has indicated support for these provisions. Please use the MOAA-suggested message below to urge your legislators to follow the lead of the House-passed defense bill and reject these short sighted personnel cuts.” Although the vote has already taken place, you can still make your thoughts and opinions known concerning the pay and benefits cuts by sending the e-mail. Here’s the link to the website to send your thoughts to Congress: http://capwiz.com/moaa/issues/alert/alertid=63933921&PROCESS=Take+Action
From here, you have to enter your zip code and then will take you to the draft correspondence. Enter your name, address, and POC information and follow the simple directions to send the correspondence. The entire process takes about 2 minutes.
The other alerts are “Don’t Cut the Troops’ Pay Raise”, “Support the SBP Special Needs Trust”, “Ask Congress to End Sequestration Now”, “Reject Military Pay and Benefit Cuts”, “Reject Budget Driven Cuts to Pay and Benefits”, and “Don’t Balance Budget on the Backs of Those Who Serve”. There are also 45 pieces of legislation that MOAA is supporting listed at http://capwiz.com/moaa/issues/bills. These items include legislation concerning active/reserve issues, survivor benefits, retirement issues, health care benefits, veterans issues, and spouse/family items. This is a great list if you’re interested in learning more about the bills. You can click on the names of the bills and learn more about each of them. If you have any questions, please contact Jen Travers at ericjen2001@msn.com.”
