SPEAKERS. CAPT Bill Tate was the guest speaker at our October luncheon. He provided an excellent and interesting presentation of the players and events which took place in the Ohio territory prior to Ohio becoming a state along with identifying several current historical sites based on events during that period. The November speaker is Lt Col Pryor Timmons who has a great subject. The official date for destruction of the Berlin Wall is 9 Nov 1989, and our luncheon is 8 Nov 2019; almost 30 years to the date of the Wall coming down. Pryor was in Berlin at the time the Berlin Wall came down, so he will provide some historical perspective and personal observations of that event. I encourage all to attend.
RECOGNATION. We will use the November luncheon to recognize one of our Honorary members, Mr. Rick Isbell for his induction into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in November and recognize his work helping Veterans across the state.
VETERANS DAY. Veterans Day is Monday, Nov 11th. The theme for this year is “Service.” Veterans Day is intended to thank and recognize all those who honorably served in the military, in war time or peace time. I encourage each of you to thank a Veteran for his/her service. I personally thank each member for serving.
MONEY, BUDGET, & FOUNDATION. A first preview of the 2020 budget will be at the Board meeting this month. First, we have two budgets: one for the Chapter, the other for the Foundation. The Chapter budget will be much smaller than normal because the programs we support will be under the Foundation budget. The Foundation budget is built solely on donations while the Chapter budget is built on membership dues. Secondly, fundraising efforts have begun through the Foundation and during the approximate three weeks we have focused on this, $1,000.00 has been raised. It appears we’re off to a good start. We encourage and welcome you to donate if you have a specific program you wish to support through either the Chapter or Foundation website (we have two separate websites).
GREAT SUPPORT. The Central Ohio Stand-Down was another great event on October 15, 2019 and helped 589 of Veterans. Thank you to all who contributed financially and with your time.
GREAT OPPORTUNITY. The Westerville Honor Flight Committee is supporting “Wreaths Across America” and “Honor Flight Columbus” at the same time. These are worthy programs and the Committee has asked for our help. The Foundation Board will review if we can help financially as an organization; however, if you wish to help as an individual, a flyer is attached that provides the ability to do so.
ELECTIONS. Election time is coming soon. We have five positions in the Chapter that are elected positions (President, VP for Programs, VP for Membership, Secretary, & Treasurer). Everyone except the President (me) is willing to stand for re-election and serve in their current position. We need someone to step forward and be willing to serve as President. It has been a great two years for me personally; however, I believe new leadership with new ideas is great for an organization. Please contact CAPT Bill Tate, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, if you are thinking about the Presidency or any of the other elected positions,
Board of Directors meeting: November 6, 2019, Bldg 11, Section 9, Room 906 at the Defense Supply Center – Columbus (DSCC).
Luncheon: November 8, 2019, Berwick Restaurant, 1130 – 1300. The speaker is Lt Col Pryor Timmons and the subject is the “Day the Berlin Wall Came Down.”
