This is a short edition that will address a variety of subjects. We had a great luncheon in April at the Berwick. The remodeling has made the atmosphere much nicer; however, the luncheon was great due to the people there. We had a couple, Betty and Moe Cea who had not attended in twenty-five years. It was a pleasure meeting them and having them present. We had two speakers from the National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) talk about the museum, some of the activities they’re doing and planning to do, and a nice brochure was provided to everyone present. I really enjoy being with people who have common experiences and truly live the motto “never stop serving.”
It is not too late to make your reservation for the Armed Forces Day luncheon at Villa Milano on 17 May 19. You can make reservations on our web site and the cost is $25.00 per person. For those of you who don’t particularly care for Berwick or if Berwick is too far, this is a great opportunity to enjoy a different place. We normally pre-pay for two tables accommodating 20 people but can add as many as needed to ensure all have a seat. It’s a great event, so hope to see you there.
We are continuing to work on comments/input from our survey and have finalized a tracking method. We are still in the wait mode for IRS approval of the 501c3 application, which is the final step. We are reviewing the by-laws for sufficiency and there is a committee in place reviewing various methods of fund-raising while we wait on the IRS. This committee will provide recommendations on the best way to proceed.
In both March and April, we had a visible presence at numerous ROTC award events, commissioning ceremonies, and the joint service ROTC parade at OSU. This presence increases Chapter visibility and has zero financial costs.
We are continuing to support the NVMM and in return, they are supporting us. We had the State Council of Chapters quarterly meeting there on 27 Apr and will have our Board meeting there on 1 May. It is a great venue and wonderful opportunity for people to visit the Memorial and Museum.
We were again recipients for the Marvin J. Harris Communications Award for 2018 and the award was presented at the Council of Chapters meeting on 27 April 2019. This award is given by MOAA National based on excellence in both the web-site and newsletter (CONNECT). Walter Rey and Pete Wilkinson deserve a great round of applause for their efforts in these areas. Bravo!
I could go on for a couple of more pages; however, I’ll end here. I wish I could adequately express what a privilege it is to be associated with such an excellent group of people. Thank you for your continuing support to Veterans, the communities we live in, MOAA National, and this Chapter in particular.
Upcoming Events: 1May 19is the Board of Directors meeting in the Franklin Room at the NVMM. 17 May 19is the Armed Forces Day luncheon at Villa Milano.
